Homemade Lasagna

Makes 12 servings · ~410 calories per serving (estimated) · 21 min prep · 2.8 hr cook

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 large onion
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon fennel
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh chopped basil (or 8 tbsp dry)
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped parsley (or 2 tbsp dry)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 12 oz tomato paste
  • Cheese mixture: 30 oz ricotta cheese
  • Cheese mixture: 1 egg
  • Cheese mixture: 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Cheese mixture: 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Cheese mixture: 2 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • Mozzarella cheese slices
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Brown and drain the beef and sausage.
  2. Combine all sauce ingredients in a pot and simmer over med/low heat for 1 hour.
  3. Make the ricotta cheese mixture and set to the side.
  4. Take a 9x13 pan, add noodles and cover with hot sink water for 30 mins, or until al dente.
  5. Drain noodles.
  6. Start lasagna layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture (1/3), mozzarella slices, meat sauce & 1/4 cup parmesan. Repeat the process.
  7. Bake at 375° for 50 mins.
  8. Remove foil after 25 mins.
